Cycling Race in Chianti
Last Sunday, we decided to go to the market in Panzano in Chianti with the family. As soon as we approched the village of Greve in Chianti, we realize that it was a special day.
Domenica scorsa abbiamo deciso di andare al mercato a Panzano e appena arrivati a Grve in Chianti abbiamo capito che si trattava di un giorno speciale.
On the roads there were crush barriers and coloured sponsors’ banner. Once we arrived closed to the bridge, a huge banner welcomed us with a huge “ARRIVO”. Spartaco and Cesare, our kids, were amazed and flattered by such a grand hail.
Sulle strada c’erano transenne e striscioni colorati degli sponsor. Una volta giunti vicini al ponte, un’enorme striscione annunciava “ARRIVO”. Spartaco e Cesare, i nostri figli, erano colpiti e lusingati da tale entusiasta accoglienza.
Who's that boy?
We immediately slowed down the speed and looked around carefully in order to understand where the race could take place keeping on going on SS222 Chiantigiana in Sienna direction. Finally a policeman with a motorbike stopped us asking to come alongside the vineyard, just before Montagliari. there was a long line in front of us.
Abbiamo rallentato e guardato attentamente dove potessero essere i ciclisti, continuando a percorrere la Chiantigiana ss222 in direzione di Siena. Poi un poliziotto con la moto ci ha intimato di accostare al vigneto poco prima di Montagliari. C’era una lunga fila di macchina davanti a noi.
Someone with no patience suggested to turn and take the Montefioralle panoramic road to Panzano’s castle. But the others protested as they wanted to be part of the event, couldn’t miss it!
Qualcuno di poca pazienza ha suggerito di tornare indietro e prendere la strada panoramica di Montefioralle che porta al castello di Panzano ma gli altri hanno protestato che volevano partecipare in prima persona all’evento, un’occasione da non perdere!
Cycling Team Cars
Our waiting has been rewarded by a surprisingly speedy cycling, colourful and windy (passing by) crowd running on the road. It just lasted a few seconds (that’s why pictures are blurred!) and made our faces so incredibly blissfull!
La nostra attesa è stata ricompensata da una folla colorata dalla pedalata veloce e ”ventosa” al passaggio. E’ durata solo pochi secondi (per questo le foto sono mosse!) e ha reso le nostre facce beatamente stupefatte.
Once arrived in Panzano in Chianti the market was almost over but the emotion of the fast moving colourful crowd and the (their) wind on our face and in our hair made our day special.
Una volta arrivati a Panzano, il mercato era agli sgoccioli ma l’emozione di quella folla colorata e velocissima e del (loro) vento in faccia e tra i capelli ha reso questa giornata speciale.
